from
Peeling the moon:
a suite of poems

by

Body clock: has a month
gone already
I move like a sea monster
carry my own sea
tomato juice
rotting shower-curtain smell

today I was imagining
wanting a child but no husband
newspaper ad:
wanted - highly intelligent, artistic,
attractive and financially solvent
male, to sire a child
with woman of similar qualifications.
must be willing to contract for
1/2 child support. visitation optional.
no matrimonial requirement.

today I was imagining
Mauna Loa
fountains of red fire
lava tunnels
I carry my body, full of self as a shell
the sea fills me and empties me

today I was imagining
blood, the flower of emptiness
ticking sea-anemone
