How to get around the Mother Millennia website

This website has been designed for navigation along any or all of five major organizing schemes:

1) Alphabetical indexing by story and by author
2) Theme threads
3) Category of work
4) Geographical location
5) Idiosyncratic linking

Indexing by Story and Author

Eventually, as the numbers of works grow, Mother Millennia will offer searching capability and segmented alphabetical sections for finding stories and authors by name. Until then, you can find the story index and the author index by clicking on the labeled buttons in the Navigation Bar always at the bottom or at the side of your browser window.

Theme Threads

There is a more detailed explanation of the threading rationale used in Mother Millennia in the Thread section, which can be reached by clicking on the link here or on the labeled button in the Navigation Bar below. Briefly, each work in Mother Millennia will carry an icon or icons representing themes found in that work that connect it to other stories in the site. The threads are broad themes such as: war, birth, father, adoption, food, etc. You can follow a theme thread by clicking on the appropriate labeled icon button, which will be on the left side of the screen for most works on this site.

Category of Work

Their are eight main categories of work, each represented by its own Mother Millennia heading banner. They are: Fiction; Biography/Memoir; Letters; Essay; Poetry; Oral History; Graphical; and Video/Sound. Each work is headed by the category it most represents, even when categories overlap, such as in "Memorial Day" by Joe Essid, which is a combination of oral history and fiction and graphics. ("Memorial Day" has been placed in the category of Oral History, but is also included on the threads of Fiction and Graphics.)

You can read a sequence of works in a category such as Poetry, for instance, in the same way you follow theme threads - by clicking on the thread icon for the category. Obviously, a category of work is a theme thread in itself.

Geographical Location

Unavailable at present, but in the works. Eventually, visitors to the Mother Millennia website will be able to use a geographical mapping scheme, both graphical and textual, to read works from different areas of the world.

Idiosyncratic Links

Many times there will be instances of a single idiosyncratic link between works, or even of a minor thread. These will be linked directly from the words or graphics within a story. There will be no icon present to represent idiosyncratic links. The coordinator will create these as an editorial/artistic decision, but they are the kind of link which we anticipate to be most requested by visitors to the Mother Millennia website.

You can find more about the philosophy of Mother Millennia and the earth graphics used on this website in the "More About" section. You can get there from here by clicking on the link in this paragraph. There is also a link to "More About" on the Home page, which you can get to by clicking on Home in the Navigation Bar below.
